Amboseli and the view of Kilimanjaro

The mountain is not guaranteed. The elephants are. We plan Amboseli for the hours when the peak is most likely to show.

Amboseli is a small park with a large reputation, and most of that reputation is a snowline above a herd of elephants. Some mornings the mountain is clear. Some mornings it is a rumour in the cloud. Both versions of the day are still Amboseli.

When the peak tends to show

Early morning, before the heat builds, is the hour we protect. A camp close to the park gate means you are looking at the sky while other people are still on the road from a far lodge. We do not promise the view. We do arrange the timetable so you are in the right place if it appears.

The elephants are the constant

The herds here are used to vehicles and often close to the swamps. That makes Amboseli a strong first or last park, especially for photographers and for travellers who want a shorter safari than a full Mara week.

How long to stay

Two nights is a look. Three nights gives you a second morning if the first was cloudy. Pair it with the Mara or with a night in Nairobi, not with three other parks in the same week.
