Seeing rhinos at Ol Pejeta

Ol Pejeta is the most reliable place we use for rhinos, and it sits close enough to Nairobi for a long weekend or a first night out of the city.

If rhinos are the reason you are coming, do not leave them to chance at the edge of a larger safari. Ol Pejeta Conservancy, on the equator in Laikipia, is where we take people who want to see them properly.

What the visit can be

A full day from Nairobi works: the conservancy, the rhinos, and the chimpanzee sanctuary, then back. Two nights is better if you want a night drive and a morning that is not attached to a city alarm. The northern white rhinos live here under close protection. Seeing them is sobering as well as rare, and we treat that visit as a quiet hour, not a tick on a list.

How it fits a longer trip

Ol Pejeta pairs cleanly with the Mara or with Samburu. It is also the right first night if you want to leave Nairobi without committing to a long park transfer on the day you land.

A practical note

The equator line outside Nanyuki is a five-minute stop if you want the photograph. We do not build the day around it.
